I get so confused and lost when people who are intellectually sound make issues out of the staged rally by GYB as a huge success and an achievement to the State Government attributing the success to the crowd and personalities who attended the rally. I feel more sorry when people decide to ride on falsehood to achieve prominence.
Judging by the video of the rally on television, majority of the people that attended the rally are between the ages of 20 to 45 years old, by my estimation it represents 77.5% of the total population at the venue. Little wonder we the youths are seen not to be ready for leadership. We are continually being used to achieve a mortifying Grim fated end. Many of the youths there are graduates without employment, so much more couldn’t continue their studies for lack of money, others are turned beggars on their soil.
May I quickly ask, WHAT ARE THE INDICATORS OF A FAILED STATE?
Salaries were last paid in December for month not too clear to civil servants as majority of them are being owed for several months even though allocations are collected on monthly basis, specialist hospital which is the government owned in the capital city has been on strike for months, people are forced to pay higher for health care at the private hospitals. Educational system has suffered greatly as standard of learning is in diminution, roads are in shambles, security of lives and properties are ridiculed, Kogi State is the center for kidnappers. Economic activities in the state is relatively slow, hunger and poverty rule the state.
All this money spent on the rally could be channel into a more productive and progressive Ventures. Best brains could be awarded scholarships to study professional courses, salaries of civil servants and pensioners could be paid promptly, strike could be called off in specialist hospital and its recurrent could be averted, money could be injected in economy to ease the poverty level in the state. Empowerment programs could also be introduced to keep our youths busy.
In 2015, kogites voted for development, security of lives and properties, quality and affordable health care delivery, solid road networks, prompt payment of workers salaries, improved agricultural technology, first lift in tourism, creation of employment and wealth. Unfortunately, the votes to achieve all this in the span of 4 years were erroneously inherited by a direction less government.
We throw insult at each other because of party differences, forgetting the issues at hand is more than party affiliations. We are quick to forgetting the importance of good governance in our dear state, capacity to deliver and determination is all that is required to achieve success.
We must not be discouraged in the system, I do seriously believe that another opportunity will present itself again in 2019, we should take decision that will avail us a positive change and a guaranteed future. Together we can make it, yes and now.
