As She Rallies Support For Gov. Bello’s Second Term Bid

More than 5,000 women across Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State on Saturday, 15th June, 2019, thronged the Children’s Amusement Park, Lokoja for the launching of a new group under the aegis of All Women United Association, (AWUA).

The launching and inauguration, of the AWUA Executives, also marked the flag-off of a state rally on the achievements of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government.

The Matron of the group, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, in her address, at the colorful occasion said the formation of the AWUA was occasioned by the need to use a new approach to politics and national integration.

Ramatu said the cardinal objectives of the group included the promotion of the spirit of oneness and patriotism among women, to discourage division, ethnic sentiments and social misdirection.

She urged Kogites to leverage on the group’s voluntary submission to service to re-sensitize the state on the need for a redefinition of values.

The AWUA matron further advocated for gender mainstreaming, just as she observed that sustainable development is impossible without addressing the adversity women face across the globe.

She regretted that year after year, successive governments continue to pay lip service to issues of women empowerment and gender mainstreaming.

On the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state, Ramatu said: “ The efforts of Governor Yahaya Bello since he assumed office proved that he eminently deserves a second term and he deserves our support.”

She described the AWUA as “a pressure group driven by the desire to join the teeming groups to support the re-election of Governor Bello in flying APC’s flag in the November 16, election.”

Urging women to support the Governor, she said the number one citizen has appointed more women into the State more than his predecessors.

She said: “The good works of the Bello are felt all over the state, in spite of the activities of enemies of progress.”

Ramatu added: “We are in Lokoja to enlist your support in this crusade to ensure victory for our Governor and our great party.”

Delegates to the event cut across women professional bodies and associations, artisans, APC loyalists across the 10 wards of the local government area, market women and female chiefs, faith based women organizations, civil society organizations, as well as representatives of teachers.

The Governor who was represented by the Special Adviser on Job Creation, Hon. Danladi Sulaiman Aguye, used the opportunity to take stock of his achievements in the last four years, especially on women affairs; while he renewed his commitment to the promotion of women well being and advancement.

The colourful event witnessed distribution of free textile materials by Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu.
